Whether you're a pants girl, a classic silhouette lover, or a creative who likes experimenting with new styles scroll on down, there's something for you! :) Here are a few women's outfit ideas for a cruise formal night - or any night! |

If you're more of a pants gal, try a pair of chic tailored trousers with a blouse.
These wide-legged pants in aubergine were a hit. I was nervous to style them at first because I was afraid of drowning in fabric as a petite girl, but here's how to hack wide leg pants if you're a short girl:
In the end I felt really chic in these burgundy tailored wide leg trousers.
With heels they fell at the perfect length so as not to bag out and combining that with a high waist (perfect for a petite pear!) made me feel like my legs were miles long. |

I find myself packing this versatile black dress every cruise I take.
Why? I can match my outfit to my mood... or the weather!
I can wear it as a black halter LBD, a one strap black dress, Grecian style dress, a skirt, a shawl, a cozy scarf.. I even find myself making up dresses beyond the 8 styles recommended here
Carry-on Packing Tips: Look for multi-way pieces you will actually wear. These clothing items are not for everyone, but if you find a piece like this one that works for you... it's a worthwhile investment in terms of cost and in luggage real estate! ;)

It's no secret that it's been especially blazing hot this year and I learned the hard way that choosing the right tees depends on a combination of fabric, weight, and weave.

What is slub cotton?
The slub fabric tees are new for Mott and Bow this summer 2023. These tees are 100% cotton slub jersey fabric. I really prefer natural fibers these days as much as possible, so I was happy to see this 100% cotton summer tee available!
What is slub cotton? It's a particular cotton weave style that adds a feathering effect to the finished garment due to added texture on the reverse side of the fabric. Since the fabric isn't one solid weave, but has variations in it (you'll see what I mean in the pictures), it makes a great option for summer because it is super lightweight and breathable!
Let's get to the try on!

Mott & Bow Classic Crew Slub Tee in Bone XS
TL;DR: Mott and Bow's Classic Crew Slub Tee is a dream, lightweight summer t shirt for women that's timeless with quality finishings, and not too sheer!
First I would like to draw attention to the detailed finishing of the classic crew slub women's tee from Mott and bow. Notice the flat laying, thick (but not too thick) neckline of this tee and the neat double row of stitching. Also notice the lovely stitching on the sleeve.
TBH, I don't know a lot about sewing and the names of these stitches/finishes, but the more garments you look at and review the more readily you recognize quality finishes that are well executed.

The shape of the sleeve is a detail I am particularly a fan of. It has room, but it's also tailored to be at an angle. I feel this is a really flattering sleeve shape for me. Further when t shirts have longer and baggier short sleeves, not only do my little twig arms look like they are drowning in fabric, but also it can be harder to dress them up, imo.
This is a classic women's light blue jean and white tee outfit, tucked and untucked.

TL;DR: Very relaxed fit, large arm holes. If you're the sporty type, this is all you girl!
This style oftank tee is a departure from my usual style. Of course the fit is relaxed and a bit boxy. I appreciate the slight angling of the sleeves! (which.. this is a sleeveless tee, but you know what I mean right?)
The finishings of this slub tank are on par with the classic crew slub tee. I like to see that consistency in a brand. In terms of my style, I like the look of this best with a little angled twist through the belt loop. What do you think? I like the added shape it gives!

Mott & Bow Fitted V Neck Marcy Tee in Olive XS
Mott and Bow's Marcy Tees are a crowd favorite and available in a ton of colors both as a V neck and crew neck. I thought it would be helpful of you to see a comparison if you're trying to decide which Mott and bow t shirt is best.
TL;DR: Love. This. Tee. Perfect everyday tee, but a step up!
First of all, the color is chef's kiss. A light olive that is a perfect neutral and I think it's a great color that goes well with the leopard print shoes, no? :)

The composition of the Marcy Tees is different than the slub tees. The Marcy tee is 50% pima cotton and 50% modal. This means two very important things.

My first pair of Nisolo shoes are these beautiful Black Dari Commuter Boots!

I have been eyeing this pair of black leather ankle boots with a heel for the longest time, probably going on about 2 years, in fact. One of my In Search Of items has been a pair of versatile black ankle boots to wear casually and with dresses and skirts.
The unboxing experience was exciting and felt so special. Each boot comes in it's own protective bag which is testament to the love that went into making these leather ankle boots.
Why was I interested in Nisolo Dari Commuter Boot?
The Dari Boot is an elevated black ankle boot with a 2.5" heel - High enough to make for a polished finish when wearing dresses and skirts but low enough to wear every day and be comfortable - even travel days! The commuter edition of the Dari Boot has a rubber sole which I thought would fit my lifestyle well - no matter the weather or how much walking, I think they will be more comfortable than a stacked wooden heel.
Breaking in Leather Boots
Leather boots and leather shoes always require a little bit of breaking in as leather starts out a tad stiff and then learns to move with you!
 Breaking In Leather Boots | I'm still doing almost everything from home as far as work, volunteering, and socializing at this time, which is actually ideal for breaking in a new pair of leather boots. I wear them all over the house, at the desk, doing laundry, etc. I've actually worn them for 5-12 hours each time and have never had any blisters or real "hot spots" which can be common when breaking in new shoes. Granted, I believe that the way you walk around your house differs from how you walk when you're out and about. If I was going out I would wait until they are fully molded to my feet or just for short periods of time until they are. The top of the shaft where it hits against my shin is the one part that feels stiff on me out of the box which is expected unless you're wearing sock booties. |

Alternatively my favorite skinny jeans and leggings work great for adding a little cushion as the shaft breaks in and the gentle creases form in alignment with the way you move.  Beautiful Gold Zippers on Nisolo Dari Boots | When it comes to the Dari Boot I decided to size up to a size 9 from an 8.5 for a few reasons. First, I wanted to be able to wear socks with this boot, so I needed to account for that. Also, sometimes I pop in insoles (like these cozy sheepskin insoles) or little ball of foot cushions (Sheec review here) In case the slope is steeper than expected or I plan to do a lot of walking and want extra comfort. Finally, the pointed toe is my favorite shoe silhouette hands down, but can sometimes compromise space in the toe box. Often just sizing up half size will give you so much more comfort! So overall I'd say the Dari Boots fit true to size, but size up if your foot is on the wider side or you want to wear thicker socks etc. |

It's a glimpse at the day to day life of real people living their lives in the place you're a visitor in.

Our first train ride in Portugal started at Boliqueime station. Okay.. actually it started with an Uber to the station. One of those uber rides where you semi fear your life and question how easily you hop into a car with a stranger whose driving you've not previously assessed, but I digress..

Boliqueime Station is a quiet little train station in Algarve, southern Portugal. This is not a manned station which means you will need to purchase your tickets in advance. How do you buy train tickets in Portugal?
How do you buy train tickets in Portugal?
Visit the official website for Portugal's train system - Comboios de Portugal and select "comprar bilhetes" (buy tickets). You'll be able to enter your starting point and end destination and see choices for train times and prices. Our ticket from Boliqueime to Portimão was 4.15 euro per person. This trip is about an hour long. Your ticket will be emailed to you and you can print it or show it on your phone and it will be scanned on the train. If you can't purchase a ticket in advance, you'll be happy to know you can pay with exact change on the train. After boarding and once the train departs, someone will walk through each car to verify tickets of all new passengers.
Waiting for a train is an excellent time to catch up on reading, studying, or just take a moment to really be present and observe the little things. On this particular day I took a moment for this outfit combo that I have been gravitating toward all summer so far:

Trains in Portugal - What if I miss my train?
If you cancel in advance you can get a refund and rebook. If you are at a manned station, you can talk to someone in person about exchanging your ticket. In our case, the station was unmanned and we missed our train so we couldn't cancel it in advance. We tried to buy a new ticket for the next train online but the purchase window had closed. So we were prepared to pay again on the train if necessary. We showed our ticket for the previous train to the man and he maintained silence and a bit of a stern expression in response to our apologetic tone and willingness to repay. Finally he said next time, be sure to exchange your ticket and walked away. In Portugal, things are always possible. :)

Tradlands Meadow Linen Skirt in Olive, shown above, is a new release for 2022 from Tradlands and it is definitely a hit. With a size range from XXS-5X, almost everyone can find their perfect summer skirt in the meadow skirt!
When I say perfect summer skirt, I truly mean it. This linen skirt is perfect for summer. It has a comfortable elastic waistband, two generous pockets, an ideal length and gather so you don't have to worry about gusts of wind, all in an elevated fabric blend of linen and tencel. It's true a stunning piece and easily one of my favorites in my entire wardrobe.
For sizing, I went with the size chart recommendation of a medium with a 27" waist. This is definitely a comfortable size for me, though I feel I could have sized down to a small to wear it higher without needing a belt. The olive color is gorgeous and if you can save up for one olive and one black of this skirt.. you'd be set for life girl.
This is a skirt that you can wear with flip flops, tennis shoes, or heels. Dress it up or down, wear it constantly, live your life in the comfort and effortless style of tradlands meadow linen skirt!

What kind of flaws do the sample sale items have?
Common flaws include fabric slubs, yarn pulls, sewing imperfections, small stains, pinholes. You can see some examples on encircled's website, but before you go there here are two items from the encircled sample sale as a first hand example!
I'm glad for the tiny piece of tape to help me locate the flaws because otherwise I may not have found them at all! I tried to take a picture so you could see them as apparently as possible. This is the Effortless V Neck in Emerald (US/Global or Canada) and the Dressy Mockneck in Brass (US/Global or Canada). Both were in the sale for a fabric "slub".

"A slub appears as a thick grouping of yarns within the fabric of a garment and is only visible due to the textural difference." -encircled
Is the Sample Sale Worth It?
YMMV and some imperfections may be more noticeable than these. I can only share from my personal experience and I have to say getting these pieces at 30% off for such minute "flaws" is pretty special and definitely worth it!
Remember, you're supporting a small, ethical, slow fashion brand. Truly a 30% discount is like an 75% discount at a fast fashion store. (No scientific/mathematical calculation there, I'm just saying discounts are a big deal because costs are sooo much higher!)

To date, the Lily Silk SOS Shirt is my third silk shirt. This Charmeuse Silk button up blouse is truly a beautiful piece. If you love a silk top with a luxurious sheen, this will be up your alley. I can't really put into words how truly special and super ... silky? (lol) this women's silk blouse feels to the touch and when wearing it! Let's get to the try on!

Final Thoughts Lily Silk SOS Blouse Review
I typically prefer a slim fit when it comes to blouses because of being so petite. For that reason, the Lily Silk Basic shirt is probably a better option for me overall (and they have lots of gorgeous colors!) Howeverrrrr I have to admit that I loved the oversized silk blouse layered under a sweater. It felt so luxurious and silk has great thermoregulatory properties making it a double win! A lot of base layers are made up of synthetics that make you itch or get overly warm, but that won't be a problem here! To help extend the life of your silk blouses, I recommend a sweat proof undershirt like these.

Quince's washable silk camis were part of my first order from the brand. A camisole always seems to be such an essential in any wardrobe... a basic staple piece that everyone needs in their closet. Hence I snagged one in ivory and one in black.
My review of Quince's Washable Silk Cami:
The Quince camisoles are of nice quality and I appreciated that the ivory option is double layered so it's not so sheer. It's hard to find a light colored silk that isn't see-through.
Another nice feature of the cami from Quince is that the straps are adjustable. The sliders are made of metal so they should last well over time. Adjustable straps really appeal to me as a petite person who prefers a modest neckline.

The silk cami has a really nice drape so it looks classic worn on it's own or as a layering piece.
What could be better? I wish the scoop of these camis was not so profound. In retrospect, I can see on the models that the scoop is pretty.. scoop-y? I was just hoping with the straps shortened that it would be a little bit higher up and closer fitting on me. For the most part, I don't find these camis to be helpful for wearing as a modesty piece under a V neck or wrap style dress/top because often where the plunge neckline falls on me is about the same spot the cami starts, so ... yeah. Remember every body is different. Check the customer photos to see if someone's body type is similarl to yours to get a better idea of fit!

What I learned: This purchase helped me realize that I generally only wear a cami as a layering piece for modesty with a v neck or a wrap style top or dress. I'm not someone who really wears spaghetti straps even in the summer. I prefer a strap that is thick enough for a 'normal' bra strap to be covered because I rarely want to be bothered with a strapless bra.
However, in the event that one did want to wear this cami alone as it does have a lovely drape, I would recommend these or these over bra straps hanging out or an uncomfortable strapless bra.
Overall I think if you are a cami person you will love quince's silk camis. Right now you can get the quince washable silk cami in 6 colors.
As for me, I thought I would be reaching for these camis more often than I do. They are still a piece I will keep in my wardrobe because there is a time and place for them in my personal style!

The Quince Washable Silk Stretch Blouse is a piece I wear regularly. It is a shiny silk, unlike my everlane clean silk button up (review here) I think overall my personal preference is the more matte silk, but I still get a lot of wear out of this piece from Quince clothing.
How I wear it? Most often I wear the Quince silk button up shirt with skirts, under a dress, or under a sweater or other long-sleeved top. I rarely wear it completely on it's own as it's a little bit sheer, so I prefer to use it is a layering piece. There's something about a collar peeking out that makes me feel so confident and put together!
Are Quince's silk blouses worth it? I think so! I would consider adding another color (maybe magenta?) as there are 6 color options currently!

Pro tip: Be careful what you wash with this top. This isn't specific to this silk blouse, but in general. One day I washed all my washable silks together without even thinking of the color. When I went to hang them to dry I realized that my ivory silk blouse is now more of a cool white with the slightest touch of blue. :-( If you didn't know how it looked originally, you may not notice it. I love my Quince Australian Merino Wool Cardigan. I tend to run cold but also have a hard time regulating temperature so layers are my best friend. Easy layers. Layers I can take on and off near constantly. lol. For that reason I really like this merino wool cardigan. It's my first merino wool piece and when it arrived I remember my first thought was "this is so soft and feels luxurious!" Since I have worn it 3-5 times a week for the past year I can confirm that it is a great piece that holds up well. It's meant to be hand washed or dry cleaned, but I did throw it in the washer many times with no issue. YMMV. Just be sure not to put it in the dryer or it may shrink a bit and the feel may change a bit.... Not speaking from experience at all.. ;)

When it comes to pants I currently wear these jeans or comfy-cute dressy sweatpants and dressy leggings from this brand. I thought it could be helpful to add another neutral pant so I opted to give Quince girlfriend chino pants a try in this olive green color.
These are not my jam. I keep trying to wear them to see if my opinion changes, but I just don't feel comfortable in them. I don't like the way they fit my body. I don't like the style stripe down the side. (The original product image did not show the stripe and after ordering they added more photos. Although it was probably in the text description and I didn't notice)
As an alternative I may try the Prana Halle pants sometime. They would be great to have on hand for hikes and other outdoorsy activities I think!

Another way to wear a turtleneck sweater in winter or fall time is to wear it overtop of a dress, or as in this case, a high waisted maxi skirt! How to Care for Cashmere Sweaters
With any garment, you should always check the label and adhere to it for the best outcome and greatest longevity. Some say dry clean only. Others say hand wash. It's generally best to lay them flat to dry if you are washing at home.
Protect Your Sweaters With This Undershirt
Decreasing the need to launder sweaters definitely helps extend their lifespan. One way to do that is to wear a layer beneath them. I especially recommend these sweat proof undershirts. Why I Was Interested In Trying The Crop by Numi
I followed Numi as a brand for a couple of years before finally ordering a couple of their performance sweat proof undershirts to try.
Shifting to more conscious clothing purchases recently means I have been slowly adding better quality pieces into my wardrobe. A lot of these pieces are beautiful natural/more sustainable fibers like cashmere, silk, organic cotton, tencel and modal to name a few.
Proper care of our garments can help them to last much longer. Most of our clothing items are being washed way more often than is actually necessary which causes breakdown of the fibers and shortens the lifespan of the garment considerably.
Thus, one reason to try Numi sweat proof undershirts was to extend the number of wears before needing to wash! Having a base layer prevents the garment from contacting your skin and absorbing sweat and other oils throughout the day. (And it's cozy in these cooler months!)

Throughout the day, I often notice visible sweat marks in the armpit region of my tops, no matter the weather. I do make and use my own natural deodorant which works great and honestly I feel that I sweat less than I used to when I used commercial “deodorant/antiperspirant”. Still, sweat comes out and I am totally okay with that (it's natural and part of the body's design!), but it can be awkward if it’s really noticeable.
And of course, I don’t want to have my garments stained over time from this. So preventing those sweat marks, temporary and permanent, is another reason to try Numi technical undershirts for women.

Finally, the modesty aspect. I personally always feel more comfortable when I have a modest base layer on. This allows me to wear different necklines and silhouettes without feeling self conscious or needing to constantly adjust them. I always thought a cami was the perfect solution for this, and recently tried quince silk camis, but was a little disappointed that the neckline was lower than my preference for this purpose and the fit was also not ideal for it either. So Numi undershirts could be a perfect cami alternative for modesty!
TL;DR - I tried Numi because I was interested in preventing sweat marks and stains, minimizing the need for washing garments, thus extending their life, and as a modest layering piece.
Numi The Crop Review - Fit
I chose size XS and the fit is comfortably snug, as it should be. I think XS was the right choice for me. I'm always torn between XS and S, but since I didn't have to accommodate my hips (petite pear over here!) as this is a crop top, I felt safe with the XS.
Numi The Crop Review - Quality/Longevity Prognosis
The material blend, 90% Tencel, 10% Lycra, is thin (except at the armpits) on purpose, so that it can be as invisible as possible underneath your other garments. This being the case and having some experience with soft materials, I anticipate it pilling a bit from the friction of always being worn under a garment. Since I don’t plan to wear this as a shirt alone, this shouldn’t be a problem if it does indeed happen. It won’t impact my primary ways of wearing the Numi Cropped Essential Undershirt - to prevent sweat stains and extend the life of my more precious garments. Finishing and stitching quality looked very nice upon arrival!
Numi The Crop Review - Wear Testing
To wear test this "sweat proof undershirt" I decided to wear it under a few different layers of clothing.
Layer 1: Numi Undershirt
Layer 2: Quince Silk Button Up
Layer 3: Mott & Bow Cashmere (Review Here)
I started to get pretty warm in this combo and proceeded to clean the entire house and do laundry. By the end I was feeling very warm, if not overheated... And guess what? Success!! No moisture on my finer garments, even the Numi didn’t feel wet from the outside. Also no other deodorant marks etc.
Initial thoughts from wear testing:
Reverse neckline is too high and makes me feel frumpy.
Scoop neck is so low it cuts below my bra lines which makes for weird lines under clothing and doesn’t help replace a cami for modesty.
Sleeve lines could initially be seen on some thinner materials but seemed to roll out as the day went on and disappear. Could be avoided with the long sleeve edition possibly.
Trying to pull fabric up at the shoulders to raise the scoop neckline caused weird bunching. I think with broader shoulders and a fuller chest you wouldn’t have any trouble, but I am petite and I think I must have narrow shoulders so it doesn’t work great for me and I hate the feeling of clothing falling off my shoulders.

The Numi sweat proof undershirt does the job for me. It keeps me feeling cozy, my armpits dry, and my other garments protected. Unfortunately as a modest layering piece, it’s not as functional as I would have hoped *on my body*. :( I find the crew neck option to be too high and the scoop neck is extremely low on me.

Numi The Crop Review - Would I Rebuy? Any Suggestions for Improvement?
I would definitely consider rebuying if Numi adjusted the neckline or made an additional neckline option that wasn’t such a low scoop.
I would also consider getting the full length version (aka "The Signature"). I bought the crop thinking it would be more versatile year round for modesty/sweat resistant layering without the bulk of tucking in another layer. In reality it’s making me a tad chilly in the winter because my chest feels snug and cozy with the extra layer, while my belly feels a bit breezy and exposed through the top clothing layer(s). In the warmer months I am guessing my use will be more limited than I initially expected because of the necklines being less than idea for me.
For most people who don't mind a scoop neck like this and aren't as petite and narrow up top as I am, I believe this top will work very well for them as is!

Numi The Crop Review - Will I Keep it and actually wear it?
Yes. I will definitely be keeping the Numi performance undershirts and I will definitely get good use out of them and continue to formulate an ongoing opinion of them.

Numi The Mask - OS Black & Almond $15 (Oct 2021)
The Mask from Numi is made from upcycled fabric from their essential undershirts - Tencel/Spandex Blend. The masks are two layers and super soft, as you'd expect. Having a petite face, I have found that many face masks do not fit me well and gape open at the sides which is not ideal. The Numi face masks actually fit my face well! As with all masks I've tried so far that go behind the ear, the back of my ears do get sore after extended wear. But that's better than the alternative, for sure. :) Bundles of 3 masks come at a discoun, btw!

Take note of how beautiful the knit is and how sort of vibrant? the color is even though it’s basically just off white? I’ve seen this vibrancy in the other Tradlands knits and I think it’s one of the many reasons these sweaters scream quality to so many people.

If you’re looking for fit reference, note where the birch shelter cardigan xxs hits between waist and hips on a petite body. Also note the drop sleeve and overall sleeve length. Some pics I have rolled the sleeves a bit to give you an idea. This is easily a sleeves-over-fingers cozy kind of sweater for someone with my arm length! How do you like it with just the top button done?

While many people love to wear the Shelter Cardigan as a top in itself, I think I would find it too low for comfort. I would at least want a cami or even a numi top (which will also protect the sweater from sweat) underneath. Here you can see the fit difference if you pull it back from the shoulders to make the neckline more modest or if you pull it forward. Which do you prefer?

The Tradlands Shelter Cardigan is a beautiful and high quality, ethically made cotton knit cardigan with buttons. FYI The Shelter Cardigan does not have pockets, if that’s something you’re looking for in a cardigan. I chose the color birch because I wanted this piece to work with literally anything I’m wearing, no matter the color spectrum, but Tradlands has some really gorgeous new fall colors out like jam and also emerald green (I think that was released in summer, but still) so if this style if your jam (ha, jam.)… you may want to go big with another vibrant hue!
This slightly oversized slouchy cardigan is a huge departure from my historical style, but it’s actually a pretty awesome addition. When deciding between the Shelter Cardigan vs Cottage Crewneck Sweater, I opted for the shelter cardigan because it is a sweater with buttons. You see, my temperature fluctuates so much. One minute I’m hot, the next I’m cold. Then I’m hot, then the AC kicks on and my teeth start chattering… I have a hard time staying comfortable so I’m constantly putting on a layer and take it off which is much easier to do with an open cardigan or button cardigan than an over-the-head sweater. (Although those sweaters are great for true winter when I’m just gonna be cold no matter what until spring haha.)
Tradlands Shelter Cardigan is now my go-to cardigan for Fall and Winter layering.

For me, Tradlands Shelter Cardigan is a no brainer for when I need to throw on an extra layer and just feel straight up cozy. The fit is different than my usual style preferences because it's slightly oversized. This is what makes it such a cozy sweater. It has a nice amount of weight and a beautiful knit. Easy to toss over winter layers or a tank top on a cooler summer night. Keep it at the office to combat those drafts. Love it.

Mott & Bow's oversized cashmere v neck sweater in oxblood is a great addition to my sweater collection. The color is one of my personal power colors, meaning it's a color I always feel great and confident wearing. Worn alone with jeans or a skirt, it's a quick and easy outfit. The slightly oversized fit also allows for using this as a layering piece in the warmer months. I love a button up collar peeking out from under a v neck sweater.

Everlane The Cashmere Crew Sweater - Red XS - sale $60 (Sept 2019)
I invested in some cashmere sweaters because I wanted more natural fibers in my wardrobe. I realized a huge contributing factor to difficulty regulating my temperature in the colder months was some of the synthetic fabrics that nearly all my sweaters were made of. Polyester, Acrylic, etc... These are no good for me, personally. I snagged a sale on a popular cashmere crew from Everlane. The fit of the XS is preferred and I do enjoy wearing this with jeans and patterned skirts that have red in them, as well as with solids to add a pop of color in the cold months.

An easy cardigan with pockets to toss on for a little extra warmth but without being bulky. The Quince Merino Wool Cardigan is a cardigan without buttons, it has roomy pockets, and is super soft. Be careful when washing/drying because I accidentally popped mine in the dryer on auto once and I think it did shrink a bit, although not to an unwearable point.

The first "better" sweater I invested in, from Encircled clothing - The Dressy Sweatshirt. This sweatshirt is made from a blend including rayon from bamboo and merino wool. They now have another wool free sweater blend available in this design. I find the wide neckline is too wide for my frame and petite style preferences. I still like to wear it as a quick throw on layer, especially when traveling.

Encircled Clothing Review: The Performance Pencil Skirt Review
I absolutely love the look of the performance pencil skirt. It’s totally up my alley as a regular skirt wearer. I know this has been thoughtfully designed to not be a constricting pencil skirt, but a comfortable pencil skirt that you can actually move in. While I appreciate the incorporation of the slit for easy movement, I really have to see this piece in person to decide if it’s right for me. The model is a good 5” taller than I am, so it’s possible that the slit would be okay for me, but I really prefer not to have slits above the knee. There are some really elegant ways to add movability into a pencil skirt via slits/splits without showing more skin based on how the slit is designed and constructed. I do also have pencil skirts that offer plenty of movability without having a slit at all, so I think it’s more of a style and design choice and I’m really curious to see one in person and see where/how that slit falls on me!
This is a pencil skirt with pockets. Well, a pocket. I think the hidden pocket is so cool, but I honestly haven’t used it at all in my other encircled pieces, so I’m not sure I would use it on this performance pencil skirt either. Of course, I get that everyone wants pockets in everything and it’s really hard to make a pencil skirt with pockets that are useful and flattering, so… good compromise.

Encircled Clothing Review: The Performance Work Dress Review
The Performance Work Dress is another piece that is totally up my alley. I’m excited to try the new fabric for this performance workwear line because I think it maybe the key to really being comfortable in encircled dresses and skirts! Let me explain… All of Encircled’s dresses and skirts that I’ve tried are comfortable. Their usual fabrics are amazingly soft, making them instantly comfortable. But comfort isn’t just the feel of fabric on your skin, it’s how you feel when you wear a peace, including the feeling of being at ease. Sometimes with beautiful modal fabrics while they certainly drape beautifully, they can also cling in ways you don’t necessarily want.
The Previous All Day Work Dress from encircled was amazing and is one of my favorite dresses to this day. It was a thicker micromodal/Lycra blend than other garments from the brand and had an under layer which really helped reduce the clinging affect on a slim fitting dress style. All that to say.. I think this new fabric blend may offer just the right amount of structure to put me at ease while retaining some flowy movement, and who doesn’t want that?
My personal hesitations with the piece: I love a boatneck style, but often times find them to be too wide for my frame. Or, even if the width is okay, bra-straps poking out drive me crazy and take away from the refined boatneck style. (Love when a garment has those little snaps to keep your bra straps in place!) So for The Performance Work Dress , I’d definitely need to try it on to see how the neckline sits on my body and, of course, I’m always interested in the length being at the knee or below. Personal preference :-)
Encircled Performance Workwear Line Overall Thoughts.
I’m really excited to see this new line from encircled and can’t wait to see what other pieces they release. Dying to find the perfect structured blazer. (And, incidentally, still on the fence about what a perfect blazer means for me and my wardrobe / personal style)
I imagine this new fabric which contains polyester, has been a tough call for the brand which focuses on eco friendly materials, ethical labor, and overall sustainability. But… that’s just it. Overall sustainability…. The most sustainable clothing pieces are the ones you wear and love year after year. And sometimes the most eco friendly fabrics don’t hold up as well and as a result you may not get as many years of wear out of those pieces. That’s part of the picture to consider as well. Pieces like the Performance Pencil Skirt and the Performance Work Dress have timeless designs and if the fabric blend holds up longer, provides structure, and resists wrinkles… you have to factor that in for sure. ;)

Mott & Bow's Bond Jean is a black skinny jean for women available in High-Rise and Mid-Rise. I grew up in the time of the low rise jean and I am just coming around to high waisted styles. High waisted styles are very flattering for petite pear shaped women and I love a defined waist in dresses or skirts, so here I am giving it a try with jeans and I have to say.... I'm in love!

I recently tried the mid-rise skinny jean from Everlane and the overall fit is okay, but as soon as I pulled the Bond jean on and buttoned it I just felt understood. That's the only way I can explain it. The fit is excellent for my body shape and preference. There's no gap at my waist like I normally experience. The Bond jean's balance of stretch and structure is ideal. |

The Emma Crew Neck Cotton and Cashmere Mott and Bow Sweater is basically my dream everyday long sleeve shirt / lightweight sweater. I got the XS and I love the way this piece fits me! This is a piece I will reach for at least once a week because it's such a wardrobe staple.

The blend is 85% Cotton and 15% Cashmere. With that much cotton it feels durable, yet snuggly because of the cashmere addition. The ribbed fabric creates some textural interest and I forgot firsthand how much I love this. Many of my basics are smooth and super soft which makes them comfy as anything, but also makes it really easy to see any little line and it's an unreasonable pet peeve of mine when bra lines etc are overly visible through a shirt. Completely avoiding that issue here and couldn't be more pleased.
Please note: The neck opening on this sweater is on the narrower side and doesn't stretch, so be sure to put it on with care! I actually love where it sits so I wouldn't change the design at all.
Mott & Bow Light Ribbed Cotton/Cashmere V Neck - Emma Ivory.
This ivory lightweight sweater is the same as the previous Emma, only in Ivory and the V neck option.
Shown below with a quince silk cami underneath, as I find the V neck just a bit too open for my comfort.
As with most light colored and light weighted sweaters and tops, it's not going to be as opaque as the black... obviously! If this has an impact on purchasing decisions, take a look at my shoulder in the photo. You'll be able to see the cami and a dark strap beneath. With a flesh toned bra, you'll always do better!

A fun way to get more versatility from your wardrobe is also to try wearing things in reverse. It won't work with every piece, but I think it works great with the Willow sweater. It gives you a high neckline in the front and a dip in the back, which I always think is somehow elegant? Also makes for a great opportunity to show off your favorite lariat necklaces.

What is Butcherbox?
Butcherbox is a meat delivery subscription service. Butcher box offers beef, chicken, pork, turkey, as well as seafood like cod, salmon, shrimp, scallops, and lobster. Butcherbox also has prepared items available like the Niman ranch bbq pulled pork and other fully cooked beef, chicken, and pork perfect for quick meals.
How does Butcherbox Work?
Butcher box is a subscription meat delivery service. You can choose from 4 curated boxes or create your own box. I do a custom box so I can pick each cut of meat and seafood I get delivered. I start out with the classic box. The classic size butcher box includes 6 meat choices. Once you have ordered the base box, you can add on member deals throughout the month. You can also adjust the frequency and change the dates anytime you want. So it doesn’t have to come on a certain day every week or every month. You can literally click on the calendar which day you want the charge to come through (maybe after your paycheck deposits!?) and see the associated delivery window.
How much does Butcherbox Cost?
What are Butcher box prices like? How much does a Butcherbox cost? Those are good questions and probably the #1 question asked about Butcherbox subscriptions.

Butcher Box Customer Service
I did have to interact with ButcherBox customer service when a ham was grossly undersized and when a package of chicken wings arrived damaged. I used the live chat feature on ButcherBox’s website and it was a great experience. They were really empathetic and understanding. I received a partial refund for the ham. (Know that weights are approximate, but in this case it was an accident because the ham was literally half the estimated size) I was perfectly satisfied with that resolution. As for the chicken wings, they sent me a whole order of chicken wings (3 packages ~5lbs total!) in my next box, which I thought was really great of them. So definitely I’ve been pleased with Butcherbox customer service.
Does Butcherbox Offer Gift Cards?

Butcherbox Negative Reviews
I truthfully can’t say I’ve had a negative review to share about butcherbox so far. Unlike other grocery delivery services that have poor packing, leaking gel packs, and other issues… Butcherbox has amazing and conscious packaging. Everything has always arrived frozen for me, and when I had the aforementioned minor issues, customer service was great. If this changes in the future, I’ll update this section to let you know. The biggest con of using Butcherbox meat delivery subscription service for most people would probably be the cost. Even if the meat etc is high quality, money is money for most of us and it’s hard to spend more sometimes. SO… here are some butcherbox tips and hacks.
Butcherbox Tips & Hacks
Butcher Box can be a really reasonable alternative to buying your meat at the grocery store. If you’re used to buying organic, grass fed, and so on then butcherbox can be very competitive in price. If you buy conventional meat and seafood, you’ll definitely be paying more, but if you play the game right it may not be as much more as you’d think. It does require a little effort.
- Sign up during a “Free For Life” offer like right now where you can get Free Ground Beef For Life which gives you added value with every order.
- Sometimes you have the opportunity to add a “Free xx For Life” offer to your box after sign up for a fee. For instance, I think I was able to add Free Ground Beef For Life to my box for $50. On that order I received 2 pounds of ground beef and in every order I every make in the future, I will receive those 2 extra pounds of ground beef for free. Yes, I paid for them. But if you plan on using the service for a long time, this could be worth it. A few boxes after the initial purchase and you’ll have made your money back and be enjoying actual “free” ground beef.
- Make use of the Add-Ons and Member Deals… Especially member deals. Member deals can be a great value. Sometimes they are one cut of meat and other times a bundle. Pro Tip: Add the deals when you see them, you can always delete them from your order later, but if you don’t add them soon enough, they could sell out and you’ll lose out.
- Compare prices within Butcherbox. It’s good to keep your eye sharp if you’re on a tight budget, but trying to eat more quality meat. By seeing the price of certain items offered as add-ons or deals, you can get an idea of which items are most expensive and thus best to order as part of your base box. Then order the cheaper items as add-ons/deals.
- Know your buy prices. Over time you may notice a pattern in the price of some items. Maybe 2 pounds of cod are generally $20, but you’ve seen them as low as $16. Next time they are $20 you may choose to skip them and when they are at $16 then you buy a bag or 2! This is what I do. I order on average once every 3 months. This time I spent about $300 on meat and seafood and the box weighed 68 pounds. I know not all that weight was edible. If it was that means I paid $4.40 per pound for high quality meats and seafoods. Surely I paid a bit more per pound, but have you checked grocery store ads lately? Actually I went in my order history and added up the total and the order was a little over 50 pounds of meat so that means I averaged $6 per pound on this order!
Is Butcherbox Worth It?
For me? Yes. Because I buy periodically it allows me to add deals and later decide which ones I really want when I actually need to complete my order and stock my freezer again (please don’t ever do away with this butcherbox!) I get better quality meat from ButcherBox than I can find at my local grocery store, theoretically help support smaller farmers, and I don’t have to go to the grocery store during a pandemic! Total win for me. Will I keep ordering from butcherbox indefinitely? At this time I don’t see myself changing my meat ordering system. As long as I’m living in this country, I’ll probably keep my butcher box subscription along with my free bacon and 2 pounds of ground beef for life in every box ;)

How To Clean Teva Sandals + Wiivv Fit My Foot Custom Sandals End of Season Footwear Maintenance

Maybe it’s just me, but I think shoe care is a little overlooked, don’t you? Footwear is really important as it protects our feet and literally supports our entire body! Yet for some reason you don’t really hear a lot of people talking about maintaining their shoes. In simplifying my wardrobe and investing in better quality pieces, I am learning the art of caring for clothing and footwear in a more thoughtful way. I decided to get started with a couple of sandals I didn’t think I could mess up!
The few times I have worn these Tevas, they have managed to collect a gross amount of gunk in the grooves of the footbed. Yuck. And in the maaaaaannnny times that I have work my Wiivvs (Now Fit My Foot) custom orthotic sandals, I noted that lately they were kind of starting to … smell? Ick. Between the material, it being summer, and wearing them almost daily it was bound to happen.
Cleaning Teva Sandals
Cleaning the Tevas was simple. I put them in my bathroom sink and got them wet. Then I just used a mild, natural soap and a little scrub brush to get in all the grooves. After I rinsed them of I dried them with a microfiber towel. Good as new!
Cleaning Wiivv (FitMyFoot) Custom Sandals
Cleaning my Wiivv (FitMyFoot) Sandals was similar. I went ahead and wet them, added the soap, lightly scrubbed, rinsed off and dried. As I was drying the straps, though, I noticed these gross little crumbs. I forgot to scrub underneath the strap where quite a build up of sweat (i assume) had soaked in. So I sudsed up again and got it cleaned really food and now they are nice and fresh again! Hooray!
This is the kind of maintenance task that I tend to put off, but in all honesty it only took about 20 minutes start to finish including extra time to snap some pics, and now I actually want to wear the sandals again whereas before I was passing over them because they were in a semi-gross state. Reframing tasks like this as a way to unwind, a way to care for the belongings you have and make them last, rather than just another chore is so beneficial. It actually becomes, dare I say… enjoyable!

I personally do not understand that design trend and find them to be awkward to use, resulting in tired and sore arms/wrists. Not to mention how easily they topple over if not propped up carefully enough. The Lupe Pure may be a bit heavier than it’s competitors, but you’re losing that frustration of a tired arm and gaining a superior clean. Besides, when weight is properly distributed in a well thought out design… you’ll hardly notice. ;)
